Fayne Delay is the slapback and dead-room sound of goth, industrial, post-punk and EBM in one plugin. The short, dark vocal slap. The tight doubling on a snarled chorus. Drum rooms that sound like a basement with wet concrete walls. Caverns that swallow a synth line whole.

It is built to be fast. There are four controls and a preset plaque. Everything else lives inside the presets.

The graveyard

Every control is a tombstone. Drag a stone up or down and a red glow creeps up its cracks as the value rises.

  • DRY / WET - how much of the effect you hear. Run it at 100 on a send.
  • DELAY - the level of the delay inside the effect.
  • ROOM SIZE - the size of the reverb space. It stretches the tail too.
  • CUTOFF - a low-pass filter over the whole effect. Pull it down to darken everything.
  • ROUTING - the signpost. Delay into reverb, reverb into delay, or both side by side.
  • The lantern - click to snuff the effect (bypass) and click to re-light it.

The bat

The bat in the sky is the meter. The harder the effect works, the bigger it gets: wings spread, fangs come out, eyes glow red, ghost bats trail behind it for every echo, and violet fog rolls in with the reverb. Its wings beat in time with the delay. Drag it sideways to change the delay time and up or down for feedback. Double-click it and it screeches.

42 presets, seven kinds

  • Slapback - classic 80 to 180 ms single repeats: Sisters Slap, Crypt Vocal, Rockabilly Ghost, Wide Slap...
  • Tight - 20 to 60 ms doubling and thickening: Vocal Double, Industrial Thickener, Nitzer Snap, Stutter Box...
  • Tape - wow, flutter and saturation: Tape Crypt, Worn Echoplex, Burnt Tape, Space Echo Church, Dub Coffin...
  • Rhythmic - tempo-synced ping-pong, dotted and triplet echoes: EBM Ping, Dotted Eighth March, Triplet Shuffle...
  • Rooms - Damp Basement, Dead Chamber, Tiled Bathroom, Boiler Room, Parking Garage...
  • Vast - Cathedral Goth, Abyss, Mausoleum, Frozen Plate, Dark Hall Wash
  • Extreme - Feedback Altar, Infinite Crypt, Metal Flutter, Submerged, Whisper Chamber

Each preset sets the hidden delay and reverb character: mode, time, feedback, tone, flutter, drive, width, reverb algorithm, decay, damping and pre-delay. The tombstones then shape that preset to taste. Everything is saved with your project.

Under the hood

Four delay modes (Slapback, Tight, Tape Slap, Ping-Pong) with tape wow and flutter, saturation and filtered feedback. Four reverb modes (Damp Room, Dead Chamber, Wide Plate, Cavern) on a custom eight-line feedback delay network with modulation and early reflections. Tempo sync from 1/32 to 1/4 including dotted and triplet values.

Install

Unzip, then copy the Fayne Delay.vst3 folder into C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\ and rescan plug-ins in your DAW. Works in Ableton Live, FL Studio, REAPER, Bitwig, Studio One, Cubase and any other VST3 host. The full download also includes a standalone app.

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. No extra runtimes needed. The binaries are not code-signed, so Windows may show a SmartScreen warning the first time you run the standalone.
